Clients consistently report that “getting ready for work” is the most stressful part of their day. That stress can manifest in different ways for each person.
For some, waking up early is a challenge, especially during the dark winter months. The snooze button allows for five more minutes of luxurious sleep. After hitting the snooze button a few times, you suddenly realize it is late. The race is on!
After a quick rinse in the shower, you stare blankly into your closet. You rifle through blouses, dresses, and sweaters. Nothing feels right. One blouse is too wrinkled, so you toss it onto the floor. The rayon blouse feels too thin and your office is cold. You toss it onto the floor. The dress is perfect but you need to wear tights to stay warm as you walk to the train station. Tights make you feel like a school girl. You toss the dress onto the floor. Now you are late! You get dressed hurriedly.
You arrive at work and head to your first meeting. In the conference room, you try to focus on the presentation. Your eyes drift to the women who are, seemingly, perfectly dressed. Scarves and blazers and heels all look elegant. You feel self-conscious. The khakis and cardigan you are wearing feel boring, they don’t feel like you. Now you feel inferior. Suddenly, the eyes in the room shift and it is now your turn to present data findings to the group.
What you wear matters!
The clothes, shoes, and accessories all speak to who you really are — also known as, your authentic self. Honing in on your authentic self will help you feel genuine, confident, and at ease. You will start to enjoy conversing with others, instead of comparing yourself to them. Living as your authentic self is noticeable from the moment you walk into a room.
